Yury M. Pleskachevsky

Yury M. Pleskachevsky is the Head of the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology of Belarusian National Technical University, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor. Expert in the field of mechanics of materials and structures, materials science and microsystem technology.

Pleskachevsky Yu.M. was born in 1943 in Kazakhstan. He graduated from the Faculty of Automation and Electrical Instrument of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1965. Since 1966 he worked at Metal-Polymer Research Institute of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Gomel), where he went his way from a senior design engineer to the Director of the Institute. He was a Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus from 2002 till 2003, a Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus from 2003 till 2005. He is in research and teaching work in the system of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Belarusian National Technical University from 2005 till the present time. He interned at five universities in Germany and at the National Bureau of Standards and High Technologies of the USA.

He was awarded the degree of PhD (Technical) in the specialty “Physics and Mechanics of Polymers” in 1972, the degree of D.Sc. (Technical) in the specialty “Materials Science (Industry)” in 1984, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in the specialty “Mechanics of Metal-Polymer Systems” in 1991, he was awarded the title of professor in the specialty “Mechanics” in 1997.

He is an author of over 600 scientific papers, including 16 monographs (one reprinted in the USA), 3 Russian-Belarusian technical dictionaries, 3 textbooks, 111 Author’s Certificates and patents for inventions. He has prepared 9 Doctors of Sciences and 13 PhDs.

He was awarded with the Lenin Komsomol Prize in Science (1973), National Academy of Sciences Award (2007), the International Prize named after Academician V. Koptyug of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2011), the Internatiional Prizes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2018). His contribution to the development of science, research and administrative activities was marked by the Order of the Badge of Honour (1979), Order of the Homeland of 3rd degree (2002), 6 medals, including a medal named after P.L. Kapitsa “To the Author of the Scientific Discovery” (1998) and the gold medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus “For the Great Contribution to the Development of Science” (2018).
